Privacy policy

This page explains what personal data Bite & Wine collects, why, and what you can do about it. We keep it short because we collect very little.

Who we are

Bite & Wine (biteandwine.com) is a food and wine pairing website run from Luxembourg. We are the controller of the personal data described here. For any question about your data, write to [email protected].

What we collect, and why

  • The Wednesday letter. If you sign up, we store your email address, the time you signed up and confirmed, and the IP address used. We do this with your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You confirm by clicking the link in our confirmation email (double opt-in), and you confirm you are 18 or over.
  • Age confirmation. When you confirm you are 18 or over, your browser remembers it so we don’t ask on every visit. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.
  • Technical data. To deliver the site and protect it from attacks, our hosting and security providers process your IP address, browser type and the pages you request. This is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f)).

We don’t use analytics, advertising trackers or social media pixels, and we don’t build profiles about you.

Shop links

Some “Find this bottle” and “Shop” links earn us a commission when you buy. When you click one you leave Bite & Wine, and the shop’s own privacy and cookie policy applies. We never share your email or any other personal data with shops.

Who processes data for us

  • GoDaddy: website hosting.
  • Cloudflare: content delivery and security.
  • MailPoet: the newsletter software. It runs on our own website, so subscriber addresses are stored in our own database.
  • Bunny Fonts: our typefaces, served from the EU without logging visitors.

Where a provider processes data outside the EU, the transfer is covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

How long we keep it

  • Your email: for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe we stop sending straight away and keep only a record that you opted out, so you are never added again by mistake. Ask us and we will delete it completely.
  • Technical logs: kept by our providers for a limited period for security purposes.

Tasting evening waitlist

If you join the waitlist for The Table, our tasting evenings in Luxembourg, we keep your email address and your two confirmations (that you are 18 or over and that you want to hear about dates). We use them only to tell you about tasting dates. The legal basis is your consent, confirmed by double opt-in. You can unsubscribe from any email, and we delete the list entry when you do. When you book an evening, the host venue may also need your name for the guest list.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your data, to restrict or object to its use, or to receive it in a portable format. You can withdraw your consent at any time using the unsubscribe link in every letter. Write to [email protected] and we will reply within one month.

If you believe we have mishandled your data, you can complain to Luxembourg’s data protection authority, the Commission nationale pour la protection des données (CNPD), at cnpd.public.lu.

Adults only

Bite & Wine is for people aged 18 or over. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger, and if we learn that we have, we delete it.

Changes

If anything here changes, we will update this page and the date below.
